On the previous post, I exposed the life of the Shanghainese in the Old City of Shanghai.
As I was getting lost in the maze of back-alleys, it didn’t take more than a few minutes until I stumbled across a gambling den. More surprising, by the end of the day, I had visited six gambling rooms, overcrowded, stuffy, packed with enthusiastic players. Mostly drinking tea, smoking and always very focused.
The colorful characters gambled on games varying from cards to Mahjong, an ancestral Chinese game, played in a very modern way on fancy electronic tables.
